About Me

Holistic Postpartum was built through my lens as a mother and as a healthcare provider; it is the foundational knowledge every mother needs to know to support health and healing throughout the 4th trimester

Hello there, I am so happy to have you here! I am April Chu, a NYU trained Family Nurse Practitioner with specialties in both holistic and functional medicine. I am also the mother of 2 young kiddos, both of whom have been my life’s greatest teachers. Over my 17 years working in healthcare, I have enjoyed a dynamic career with experience in both the hospital and clinic settings; first in inpatient pediatrics and travel nursing, and later in adult primary care, and integrative medicine. Throughout that time, I have had many conversations with mothers about the interconnection between health and motherhood.

On a personal level, I learned so much through my own pregnancy and postpartum journey—a path shaped by the loss of my mother. She had given birth to seven children and always spoke fondly of the experience. Sadly, she passed away just weeks before I found out I was pregnant with my first. Her death brought a deep awareness of the maternal wisdom that passed with her. In her absence, I dove into learning everything I could about pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. That journey became a source of healing. A few years later, in the middle of the pandemic and freshly postpartum with my second, I felt a strong urge to put everything I’d learned into words. The pandemic exposed even more clearly the gaps in maternal care. Every mother I spoke to—including myself—was struggling. So I began pulling together the knowledge and resources I had gathered to build something meaningful for other moms, a process that would eventually go on to become my final Doctor of Nursing Practice Project.

This class is an opportunity to pass along some of the most foundational tools understood today as supportive for the postpartum mother. You will walk away with a holistic “toolkit” that is rooted in science and supported by the wisdom of tradition.  How we are nurtured in the early weeks and months postpartum plays an important role in our long-term health and well-being as mothers. Holistic Postpartum is an offering of support for new mothers. Thank you for trusting me on your journey!
